The Merlin-Handheld™-SM and Sidemate interfaces a PRC-163 form factor radio system to a PRC-163 form factor battery, an external power source, and auxiliary equipment (such as a Dock-lite with EUD). This allows the external power system to power the radio, charge the battery, power the auxiliary equipment and USB interface. It also allows the battery to be swapped out without the radio losing power, and allows the radio to have Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS) functionality between the battery and the external power source.
The hot swap feature allows battery change-out and maintenance without radio interruption or crypto-fill loss. It configures automatically and requires no controls.
The Merlin-Handheld™-SM and Sidemate is compact and rugged, allowing the radio to be used in all conditions, vehicle mounts, and radio racks without restriction. It does not compromise the environmental integrity of the radio. It attaches to the existing radio and battery pack without modification or tools.
